A practical starting list for teams commissioning a water-system review.
Start with the decision
Write down what the review should help you decide. Is the issue unexplained consumption, treatment performance, reuse potential or an expansion? A clear question helps define a useful system boundary.
Gather the system picture
Collect available process-flow diagrams, equipment lists, design information and the points where water enters and leaves the site. Mark where records are missing or based on assumptions.
Bring the operating record
Assemble recent water-meter records, laboratory reports, operating logs, chemical consumption and any available energy data. Preserve dates, units and sampling locations so comparisons are meaningful.
Add the people’s knowledge
Ask operators and supervisors about recurring problems, changes in feed conditions, shutdowns and maintenance. Their observations can explain patterns that a spreadsheet alone will miss.
Agree the next step
Share the objective and available information before deciding on site measurements or specialist testing. The first outcome should be a clear review scope and a list of information gaps.
